6 days to Summer countdown: Thursday was movie day!
I am so sad to say that this is the last website update of the year! We had such a great year together, and I am sad to see it end, but I look forward to the new adventures your child will encounter when they come back next Fall! This last week together was full of fun activities, a lot of outside time, some summer crafts, many songs, and we ended it off with a movie for movie day! On Tuesday we learned about our last letter for the year, the letter "J". We sang the Jolly phonics songs for all the letters together. For those that have not heard of Jolly Phonics, you can look up the songs on Youtube. Each letter has a song and movement to go with it to help students remember the letter and the sound the letter makes. It is a lot of fun, and the students really get into it! We do this every morning as part of our circle time routine. We also visited the Learning Center for the last time. Students enjoyed playing with the trains, the kitchen set, and the doll house. Wednesdays are busy days in the classroom, where students go from gym right to music therapy. In gym students had their last bike day, followed by some yoga. After a few yoga demonstrations from Mrs. O'Gara, she would call on students to show off their favorite yoga moves, and have the class follow along. That student then was able to pick another student to show their moves. It is always fun when students have the opportunity to be the teacher! On Thursday the day finally came for the students to be able to cut their grass hair on the growing experiment we did doing the Spring unit! They have been so good about being responsible for their own project. Each day every student remembered to water their own plant and replace it in the sun, because we know that plants need water and sunlight to grow! Students were able to come in small groups to give themselves a "hair cut." Some students just took a little off the top, and others decides to go for a much shorter look. The room smelled like fresh cut grass afterwards! These projects will come home with your child on Monday in a plastic baggie. On Monday next week, all the artwork that we have in the classroom will go home with your student. Please be sure to check and empty their folders, since Tuesday their clothes will be going home, and I do not want their backpacks being too heavy! Also on Monday we will be having Field Day, which will be a blast! We will be outside all day, so it is suggested that you put sunscreen on your child before sending to school. There will be cold water available outside for students to get at anytime, so you do not need to send a water bottle with your child. As a reminder, ALL students need to have GYM SHOES on to participate in Field Day. There will be many running and jumping activities, so for student safety gym shoes are required. Thank you all for such a great year at Willow Grove! I hope everyone has an amazing Summer!
